Rainy Day Activities in Verbier

There are days anywhere in the Alps when the weather closes in and one option is to hunker down in your luxury Verbier chalet or apartment and enjoy your ski holiday from under the duvet. Even the perfect vacation destinations can't have perfect weather every day. If your planned outdoor activities in Verbier happen to get rained out, don't fret! There are plenty of rainy day activities to keep you and the rest of the family entertained for hours.

Movie Theatres in Verbier

Verbier's main cinema is located just off the Place Central and shows movies in both English and French. If you don't mind going for a drive, you'll also find a cinema in Martigny and the Cinesion in Sion. While many showings are in the evening, the theatres often open early on rainy days.

Of course, there's also the option to avoid braving the rain and take in a showing in your own living room or cinema room. Many Verbier chalets are outfitted with high-end sound systems, projectors, cosy seating, and separate kitchens and bars to service the entertainment area.

Indoor Sports

If you had a full, active day planned, there's no need to laze about simply because of foul weather. There are plenty of indoor sports venues throughout Verbier.

Climbing

Climbing options in Verbier aren't limited to the great outdoors. You can keep in tip-top climbing form with the 4-faced, 11.5-metre-high climbing wall at Medran Park Tower. Or, if you fancy lunch and a climb, swing by La Marmotte, where you can climb for free when dining at the restaurant.

Squash

The Sports Centre in Verbier has two squash courts available, and you can rent rackets and purchase balls from the Centre. Be sure to call ahead to reserve the courts.

Yoga and Fitness Classes

While spas are certainly a pleasant way to pass a rainy day, you can also treat your body to a restorative and energising yoga practice or fitness class. Wholey Cow offers yoga classes, spinning, boxing, TRX, and a huge range of other fitness classes. The studio also offers health coaching, massages, and more. Chilali, a local massage service, provides yoga and pilates classes in the comfort of your chalet.

Swimming

If it's swimming you're after and all the outdoor pools are rained out, check out the indoor swimming pools at the Sports Centre. There's a 4-lane 25-metre lap pool along with bathing pools and a jacuzzi. Don't forget to stop in at the sauna afterward. Better still, why not enjoy your own private pool in your chalet?

Museums and Galleries

Art lovers are sure to enjoy the Musee de Bagnes, an art museum housed in an historic building. Or check out the numerous local art galleries filled with photography, sculpture, painting, and mixed-media art. If history is more your thing, head to the local Alpine Museum where you can see a collection of historic artefacts, or check out some of the region's more specialised museums. Go to the Saw & Mill Museum to learn how mills work, visit Forge Oreiller to see an historic cowbell factory, or go to the Saint Bernard Museum to learn about the role of this beautiful breed in the history of the Valais.
