Where to Stay in Verbier

Nestled in one of the world's most famous ski areas, Switzerland's 4 Vallées, the ski resort of Verbier offers something for everyone. The skiing is unparalleled, but there's more to this Alpine village than just the slopes. There are fantastic restaurants, thrilling nightlife, world-class spas, and plenty of scenic outdoor adventures for non-skiers, as well. Of course, your Verbier ski holiday will require that perfect ski base to match, so we have everything you need to know about where to stay in Verbier right here.

Verbier Itself

Verbier is the largest resort in the infamous Swiss ‘Les 4 Vallées’ domain situated on a sunny south-west facing plateau of 1,500m. With it’s traditional slate-roofed chalets Verbier is a charming Alpine village with a difference as it offers the kind of entertainment, facilities and cosmopolitan vibe that would only be expected from a well established city.

The different districts and vicinities of Verbier can be quite different from one to the next offering different types of terrain, facilities, atmosphere and property choice. This great variety between the full of life centre and its more exclusive or family oriented suburbs means there's somewhere for everyone to make the most of their stay in Verbier which suits all their needs and desires.

Place Centrale

As the name depicts Place Centrale is Verbier’s main hub where you will find the life of the party in the form of high end hotels, chic boutiques as well as prestigious clubs and restaurants. All roads lead to Verbier’s Place Centrale and it’s location is second to none for those wishing to be front and centre when things start to get loud and vibrant in Verbier. But being at the retail and gastronomic centre of Verbier is no compromise when it comes to lift access, as you are still very conveniently located for the Médran and Savoleyres lifts. Due to the mass of retail estate and being a hotel hotspot, apartments and chalet accommodation are not as abundant as many would like, so this popular location gets booked up fast. For more information or to see our superb collection of Place Centrale luxury apartments and chalets click here. ADD LINK- www.verbierchalets.com

Médran

Those of you that have been to Verbier will know that the Médran is Verbier’s main ski lift to get you up to the resort. Therefore, for the first lift to last lift skiers and boarders amongst you there is really no other place to be when staying in Verbier. Médran is about 500m from Place Centrale for those wishing to play hard as well as ski hard so is a prime location on all fronts. Again due to this fact properties in close proximity of Médran are in great demand and also tend to book up relatively quickly. Expect the odd well placed chalet and extravagant luxurious apartments typical of Verbier. It is worth noting that with the Médran being Verbier’s main lift in peak season queues start to build up from around 9am so it's worth getting there early at these times….or on a powder day!

Le Rouge

Le Rouge is another popular location for visitors descending on Verbier during the winter season. The area boasts a lift of the same name but is probably known best for it’s rather infamous self titled apres ski bar and restaurant. Benefits of staying in the Le Rouge are mainly due to its exceptional ski access offering various lift options up the mountain and proximity to the town centre making it a desired location for many. Characterful and opulent chalets line the piste offering ski in ski out access and opportunities to skip the Médran queues.

Brunet

Brunet is slightly more central than Le Rouge for those willing to compromise not being on the lift doorstep for something slightly closer to the town centre. It’s a great location for those wishing to explore different areas of the resort and wanting to keep their options open. It’s also conveniently located for local amenities and reaching the bottom of Le Rouge lift.

Le Hameau

The small hamlet of Le Hameau is a charming location also situated next to Le Rouge piste. With only around 20 chalets in total surrounding a small lake complete with stunning waterfall this is a dream location for many. Facilities are excellent with ski-in-ski-out possibilities for most properties in this location (a rarity in Verbier), access to tennis courts, a beautiful chapel, quaint restaurants and even a museum. A big bonus is also that if you fancy exploring ‘down-town’ Verbier it's a simple 10 minute walk away.

Swedish Quarter

Situated on its own sun-drenched plateau the aptly named Swedish Quarter is probably one of Verbier’s most exclusive (and thus expensive) locations. For ultimate seclusion whilst remaining very close to Verbier centre many of the large ultimate luxury chalet properties are built on steep terrain boasting private funiculars and heated roads for access. Due to the prestigiousness of this area it offers more space and is less built up than some of the other popular Verbier hotspots with some of the properties offering ski to your door access as a bonus.

Moulins

A.k.a. The ‘heart of Verbier’ is home to the Ecole Suisse de Ski Kid’s Club and Les Moulins crèche this is undoubtedly the place to be for families with young children. We all know what it's like to get from A to B in our ski boots carrying all of our equipment… let alone (attempting) to carry a few more smaller sets for your little people. Therefore, we at Verbier Chalets understand the need for locations as close as possible to the ski school meeting areas and nursery slopes to ease this burden. As you can imagine being such a family friendly area it is unsurprising peaceful. But parents don’t fear you are still close enough to hit the shops, restaurants and bars on a well deserved afternoon or evening off.

Sonalon

Sonalon is the highest residential area of the resort located in the north western reaches of Verbier itself. Due to its excess in altitude it offers some of the most spectacular panoramic views of Verbier, place central and in fact most of the resort. In good snow conditions many properties offer ski-in-ski-out opportunities albeit off-piste. However, access by other means is a little more involved generally requiring the use of a car due to the difference in altitude and distance from Verbier centre. That being said those looking for the quiet life can expect exceptional chalets fully equipped with everything they could want or need and a handful of renowned traditional Swiss fare restaurants close by.

Savoleyres

Another high altitude residential area in Verbier is Savoleyres. Found by the lift of the same name this area is a must for the upper beginner and intermediate skiers. With direct lift access to both Verbier and La Tzoumaz you have an abundance of cruising blues and challenging red runs at your disposal interwinding between the two resorts. Close by you will find the world renowned Chalet d’Adrien Hotel featuring Michelin starred restaurant and well equipped luxurious spa facilities as well as number of prestigious fully catered chalets at your disposal.

Les Esserts

Sometime known as the 'Golden Triangle' of Verbier this slightly raised area also provides fantastic views of the Verbier bowl but with convenient accessibility that some of the other higher altitude vicinities lack. Probably one of the most traditional and originally inhabited spaces in Verbier you wll see a sea of aesthetic dark wood chalets boasting plenty of outdoor space rather than apartment blocks found in the centre, fantastic in the winter months and even better come summer. A short distance from town and lying between two ski lifts makes this a prime location for many wishing for luxury, privacy and convenience. In the summer the piste transforms into a beautiful golf course for you to stretch your legs and practise your swing. Les Esserts has its own handful of traditional restaurants such as the Carrefour to wet your appetite and quench that thirst when you're done with your days activities.

Sports Centre/Chemin de Plan Pra

Okay so not the most charming alpine area name but in true Swiss style practical and straight to the point. In the surrounds of Verbier’s sports centre complex and in close proximity to the Chemin de Plan Pra you will find open alpine meadows and slightly flatter terrain. This attracts larger more secluded properties boasting a lot more (useable) outdoor space particularly of interest in the summer season in Verbier. Backing onto agricultural landscapes which are protected from development means this area is not built up like some other Verbier locations with chalets offering incredible gardens and outdoor facilities.

Outside of Verbier

Le Châble

Anyone on a slightly tighter budget may consider an apartment or chalet in the lower lying Le Châble. Nestled down in the valley don't think you are necessarily disadvantaged when it comes to ski terrain access as not only do you have direct access to Verbier’s main ski area and the 4 Vallées via the Le Châble - Verbier gondola but with the recent addition of the new Le Châble - Mayens de-Bruson gondola you also have direct access to the delightful Bruson ski area. What's more, those boarding at Le Châble do not have to switch gondolas at Verbier to access the ski resort as the gondola continues up the mountain to Ruinettes 2,200m as it transforms into the Medran gondola. The advantage of this can be really seen in peak holiday periods when the Medran lift station in Verbier can attract large crowds and those boarding at Le Châble are first on and therefore amongst the earliest up the mountain.

Le Châble is a a great spot for culture and contemporary art appreciators and has all the amenities one would need. So why not grab a beautiful chalet or chic apartment in the picturesque valley. Obviously, access to late night Verbier nightlife is not on the cards here but if you dont mind missing out on this then it’s a great ski base for your next Verbier holiday.

Bruson

The delightful Bruson lanes make up most of this charming village. In summer it’s forests are inviting for family strolls due to its proximity to nature, wildlife and beautiful hikes. In winter it offers a gentle quiet self contained ski resort with a wide variety of runs fantastic for families, and in bad weather conditions. That being said Bruson is considered a hidden gem of the 4 Vallées with the modest resort encompassing some of the best off-piste terrain, excellent pistes away from the hustle and bustle crowds of Verbier. Expect traditional alpine chalets, a few apartments and lots of character when choosing to stay in Bruson. It is serviced by several family-run restaurants on the mountain. But we would only recommend staying in Bruson if you wish to spend most of your time here. As getting to Verbier requires a lift down to Le Châble before jumping on the gondola back up to Verbier to access the rest of the Verbier and 4 Vallées resort.

Other resorts of the 4 Valleys include Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. All are well rounded and great ski resorts in their own right. If you would like more information regarding chalets or apartments in these locations that please visit the local tourist office website or contact the Verbier Chalets team.

But don't be fooled -- this home is far from rustic. High-end design features abound, including a refined entertaining space on the second floor centered around the wood-burning fireplace.
